Membership

Our membership is divided into four categories: Active, Associate, Affiliate and Emeritus.

The criteria for Active membership include i) appointment as a faculty member in good standing at one of our core institutions, ii) a record of accomplishment in diabetes or related disciplines, iii) present independent research funding and iv) clear need for core services. Associate members are viewed as a “farm team” for active membership and must have i) appointments at one of our core institutions, ii) a demonstrated interest in diabetes/metabolism research, and iii) a clear need for a core service. These members may be recipients of a P&F award who have not yet obtained independent outside funding, are expected to advance to full membership and are evaluated on an annual basis. Affiliated Members are appointed at an affiliated institution (UC, Irvine, Scripps, Charles Drew University, USC, City of Hope), and are i) active and independently funded scientists in diabetes/metabolism, and ii) participants in enrichment core activities such as monthly metabolism meetings, DRC retreats and lectureships; Emeritus Members are retired members of our faculty who remain active in the diabetes/metabolism research enterprise. We frequently call on these members for their experience, institutional and scientific knowledge, as they are a rich source of advice to young faculty.
